California State Teachers' Retirement System

Member Benefits Website

CalSTRS Communications contracted with Strata to build a robust, scalable Member Benefits Website (MBS) website, separate from CalSTRS’ existing public-facing websites. The new MBS website served as a critical component of a campaign to educate CalSTRS members about the value of their retirement benefit and provide timely information about events that could affect that benefit. In addition, Strata coordinated a planned program of accompanying traditional and social marketing strategies to generate awareness about the site.

Strata organized a team of partners to execute these objectives over a 120-day time frame. Marketing leadership and expertise were provided by Viaspire, with Digital Deployment managing the CMS build-out and deployment.

The California Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) was created in 1913 to provide retirement benefits to California’s public school educators. Members are employed in approximately 1,400 public school districts, community college districts, county offices of education and state reporting entities in California. Membership in the CalSTRS Defined Benefit Program includes 866,000 California current and retired public school educators from kindergarten through community college.
